What does an annuity pay per month?
Estimated monthly lifetime income, before tax, from a single premium immediate annuity — by amount and age.
These are modeled estimates, not the survey’s published figures: life-only income is modeled from published carrier quote surveys that report 5-year period-certain payouts. Each range is modeled from the survey’s 8-carrier average (low end) and best quote (high end), for income starting right away, life only, before tax. Life-only payments are the highest because they stop at death; a period-certain or cash-refund guarantee pays somewhat less.

Common questions
How much does a $100,000 annuity pay per month?
Modeled from carrier quote surveys as of October 1, 2026, a $100,000 immediate annuity bought at 65 pays a man about $655–$700 a month for life, before tax (life only). Women receive somewhat less at the same age, and older buyers receive more.
How much does a $250,000 annuity pay per month at 65?
About $1,639–$1,750 a month for life, before tax, for a 65-year-old man choosing life-only income. Adding a period-certain or cash-refund guarantee lowers the amount somewhat.
How much does a $500,000 annuity pay per month?
It depends heavily on age. For example, a 70-year-old woman would receive roughly $3,482–$3,701 a month for life, before tax (life only).
Why do women receive less than men?
Women live longer on average, so the insurance company expects to make payments for more years. Spreading the same premium over more years means a somewhat smaller monthly check.
